Yesterday, we asked our readers to pick between Robert Lewandowski and Luis Suarez in a poll on our Facebook page, and there was a clear winner.

A whopping 66% voted in favour of Lewandowski, who was enjoying yet another prolific campaign before the season was put on hold due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Polish international has scored 39 goals in just 33 games this term, including 11 in the Champions League.

Only 34% went with Suarez, who netted 14 times in 23 appearances for Barcelona before needing knee surgery in January.

Lewandowski’s record in front of goal is phenomenal – the Bayern Munich talisman has almost averaged a goal every game since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2014.

However, it could be argued Suarez is a more rounded player - the Uruguay international got 11 assists this season before he was ruled out through injury.

Both have earned more than 100 caps for their respective nations, scoring a combined 119 goals on the international stage.

Grzegorz Pizon wrote: “Lewandowski all day. Goal machine. Penalties, free-kicks, headers, right foot, left foot. Always where he should be. 100% professional in everything he does.”

Sebat Jean added: “Lewandowski is the only classic number nine in the world at the moment. Technically and physically very talented and scores a bunch of goals every season.”

However, Ayanda Nyuswa had a different view: “Overall, I think Suarez is a better footballer. He’s more versatile, has a better work rate, and can run with the ball and take players on.”

Regardless of where you stand on the debate, there’s no denying the pair are among the best players in the world right now.

We don’t know when football will return but, hopefully, Suarez and Lewandowski will be back on the pitch and scoring for fun in no time.
