What is the most iconic kit of all time? It's a tough question - are you going for beauty or prestige?

Some kits you'll remember forever because of their look, like Arsenal's 1991 'bruised banana' that was popular enough to reimagine for the 19/20 season.

But then there are kits like England's 1966 away kit, the most famous kit in English football thanks to the World Cup win.

The BBC set out on a mission to find football's most iconic kit, picking 20 of the best and putting it to a vote.

The result is a list of 20 kits, ranging from the sleek to the bizarre, but all etched into everyone's minds.

So here are the results:

20. Mexico '78 - a kit made by Levi's that didn't quite stack up to the rest on this list.

19. Belgium '84 - a wonderful red kit with diamonds across the chest in the flag's colours.

18. Colombia '90 - a brilliant kit that inspired their 2018 World Cup kit

17. Barcelona '97 (away) - the first club kit to make the list and it's a great effort. One to picture Ronaldo in.

16. Cameroon '02 - the most unique kit on the list as it didn't have sleeves. FIFA subsequently banned it.

15. England women '19 - the Lionesses first unique kit and it was a great one.

14. Boca Juniors '81 - the Diego Maradona Boca shirt. Truly iconic for many reasons and highly sought after today.

13. Denmark '86 - the Danes' World Cup debut saw them wear a very decent half red/white number.

12. Chelsea '70 - the Blues wore blue and yellow for the first time that season in the FA Cup final. They celebrated the kit with a replica in this season's cup, too.

11. England '90 - a bit more luck and this would be twice as iconic. As it is, the kit maybe should have cracked the top 10.

10. Manchester United '90 (away) - you still see this one around quite frequently. A great blue and white kit that has stood the test of time.

9. Ajax '71 - the archetype Ajax kit and one of the most famous on the planet. Worn for three consecutive victorious European Cup campaigns.

8. Liverpool '84 - a gorgeous sponsorless version was worn for the European Cup win. The Reds at the peak of their powers.

7. Arsenal '91 (away) - it's the bruised banana! As we said, this one was the inspiration for the Gunners this year. A Premier League great.

6. Celtic '67 - the pinnacle of Scottish football as the Bhoys won the European Cup in one of the most famous strips in the world.

5. Nigeria '18 - the most modern kit on the list but one that caused a storm in 2018. Sold out immediately, such was the love for it.

4. England '66 (away) - red shirt, long sleeves, three lions badge. This is the most famous kit in English football and for good reason.

3. West Germany '90 - another World Cup-winning kit and a fantastic one. The German tricolour makes its way across the kit in one of the most famous ever.

2. Netherlands '88 - the Dutch finally got their hands on a trophy in this one thanks to one of the most iconic goals ever with Marco van Basten's volley. A beautiful kit that's iconic for so many reasons.

1. Brazil '70 - Brazil's yellow and blue is the most famous strip in football and this is largely the reason why. Arguably the greatest team ever stormed the World Cup, which was the first broadcast in colour to some. The yellow shirts caught the eye as much as the football, leaving a kit that's hard to argue against as the most iconic ever.
