Ross Barkley did his 5km run in 16 minutes

The latest social media challenge to keep us busy during lockdown is the ‘Run 5, nominate 5, donate 5.’

It’s a challenge that involves you running 5km, nominating five more people to run 5km and then donating £5 to Virgin Money Giving – Run for Heroes.

Depending on your fitness levels, a 5km run could be a real challenge for you. Just completing it is a massive achievement for some.

Others would have gone out to try and beat their PB.

Whatever time you did it in, the most important thing is that you donated to a worthy cause.

You probably wouldn’t have beaten Chelsea’s Ross Barkley’s ridiculous time, though.

The midfielder – who is often criticised for being too slow on the pitch – uploaded his 5km attempt. In fact, Barkley ran 5.2km in a crazy 16:11. That’s an average pace of 3:03 km/h.

It just goes to show what incredible athletes footballers really are.

If Barkley can post that sort of time, just imagine what N’Golo Kante can do.

The midfielder has struggled with injury this season but had forced his way back into form and fitness before the coronavirus pandemic stopped the season.

And the former Everton man revealed that chipped bones in his foot meant he had to train using just one leg.

“I had fine chips on two parts of my bone in my foot so it was really painful,” he said in January. “I just had to bide my time and keep working hard. I couldn’t really kick the ball with my right foot so I was training with my left. But now I feel good and I am ready to get back in the side.”

It seems he’s keeping himself in great shape.
