Mario Balotelli picks his personal Ultimate XI and it's absolutely filled with superstars

Mario Balotelli named his Ultimate XI on Friday, including seven ex-teammates and two Premier League legends.

The Italian has certainly seen his fair share of great players, having played for Inter, Manchester City, Milan, Liverpool and the National Team among others.

But who makes his personal Ultimate XI?

Balotelli was talking with Thierry Henry on Puma Football’s Instagram page where he was asked to name the XI.

So here it is:

GK – Julio Cesar

Balotelli was at Inter with the Treble-winning Brazilian who was arguably the best in the world for a time.

RB – Maicon

Another ex-teammate and another Brazilian. Maicon was exceptional around 2010 – until Gareth Bale seemed to end him as an elite player.

CB – Fabio Cannavaro

Cannavaro retired from the Italian National Team and Balotelli made his debut in the very next game, so they never actually played together. Still, little explanation is needed here – Cannavaro is one of the greats.

CB – Alessandro Nesta

Another player Balotelli didn’t play with but another legendary defender. A pretty formidable defence so far.

LB – Maxwell

The Brazilian played with Balotelli during the latter’s early years. Never one of the greats but won an awful lot of trophies over his career.

DM – Andrea Pirlo

Back to Italian legends – although, he did play with this one. “Pirlo guarantees you 10 goals a year”, according to Balotelli.

CM – Steven Gerrard

Balotelli had a horrific time at Liverpool but Gerrard made an impression, clearly. The Scouser is another legend – can’t argue with that inclusion.

CM – Yaya Toure

“Yaya can do it all,” says Balotelli. And he really could. The only City man to make the list but Toure is the one you’d surely pick.

AM – Antonio Cassano

Cassano partnered Balotelli at Euro 2012, arguably the high point of the latter’s career. Cassano was a brilliant talent in his own right, though, who really could have been so much more.

CF – Lionel Messi

They never played together but it is Messi. He’d make most Ultimate XIs.

CF – Ronaldo

“When I was ten years old my favorite player was Ronaldo, the Brazilian,” Balotelli said back in 2015. And with good reason – Ronaldo is the archetype for the modern striker.

“That’s a good team I think, although I left you [Henry] out, I left Cristiano [Ronaldo] out,” he said afterwards.

So a very personal team from Balotelli – but a truly fantastic one.
