Newcastle United supporters are getting excited about their proposed new takeover.

Mike Ashley has reportedly agreed to sell the Premier League club to a consortium backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, which is chaired by Mohammed bin Salman.

Bin Salman is Saudi’s crown prince and comes from a family with a reported worth of $1.4 trillion.

So there’s every chance we’ve got another Manchester City on our hands.

Ashley was accused of not investing enough in the squad but that won’t be the case if the £300 million takeover is successful.

Newcastle fans are now dreaming about players they might sign and talkSPORT have gone ahead and created an ‘outrageous XI’ their new owners ‘could build’.

‘Could’. Probably won’t, but ‘could’ anyway.

It features World Cup winner Jerome Boateng, Lyon forward Moussa Dembele and Paris Saint-Germain sensation Kylian Mbappe.

talkSPORT cite the fact that Newcastle became the second favourites to sign Mbappe when reports of a £350 million takeover emerged last year as the reason for his inclusion.

“And while you’re adding such firepower in attack, why not try and sign someone like Jerome Boateng, whose Bayern Munich contract is up next summer, to shore things up at the back,” they write.

“Or go and get Kyle Walker - who appears to be in Man City’s bad books for flouting lockdown.”

Here’s the team in its entirety:

Mbappe in the same team as Sean Longstaff. You absolutely love to see it.

To be fair, with much of the world in lockdown amid the coronavirus crisis, now is as good a time as any to get carried away.

Newcastle are about to be taken over by a man who apparently owns the world’s most expensive house, the £230 million Chateau Louis XIV in France.

So maybe Newcastle fans are within their rights to expect a grand signing on the scale of Mbappe.

However, not everyone is happy with the proposed takeover.

Human rights campaigners have called upon Newcastle to reject the deal, saying the Premier League doesn’t need “the involvement of the Saudi dictatorship”

“If this immoral bid succeeds it will provide yet another propaganda vehicle for one of the most brutal and authoritarian regimes in the world,” Andrew Smith, a spokesperson for Campaign Against Arms Trade, said, per the Daily Mail.

It's thought, though, that the deal could be completed imminently.
