In the latest GiveMeSport poll, fans got to vote on who they thought was the best treble winning side out of Sir Alex Ferguson’s '99 Manchester United team or Jose Mourinho’s all conquering Inter Milan side of 2010.

The readers ultimately went for The Red Devils, who received 58% of the vote compared to the Nerazzuri’s 42%.

Fans certainly could hardly argue that no other side has secured a treble in such a dramatic fashion to date.

After all, who can forget Clive Tydesley’s epic commentary in the last few moments of the Manchester United – Bayern Munich 1999 Champions League final at Barcelona’s famous Nou Camp Stadium.

Ferguson’s side were trailing 1-0 for much of the contest thanks to a Mario Basler free kick, until the 89th minute, when in the lead up to a David Beckham corner, Tydesley uttered those famous words: “Can Manchester United score? They always score!”

What subsequently followed was a Beckham delivery, Bayern half clearing it, a Ryan Giggs miss kick  and Sheringham bundling the ball in.

A heartbeat later, as soon as the United fans had finished celebrating the equaliser, there came the out stretched leg from the baby-faced assassin known as Ole Gunner Solskjaer, who converted another Beckham corner and sparked utter delirium.

Tydesley said: “Sheringham and Solskjaer has won it! Manchester United have won it.”

There were other iconic matches to remember on the way to securing the memorable treble, including the outstanding extra time solo goal from that Welsh wizard Ryan Giggs in the dramatic FA Cup semi-final replay against title rivals Arsenal.

Mourinho’s Inter triumph, however, was equally impressive, as they remain to this day the only Italian team to secure the treble.

With the help of the 'Special One's' 4-2-3-1 formation and the Dutch master Wesley Sneijder providing the creative inspiration, they managed to impressively get past Guardiola’s all conquering Barcelona team in the semi-finals.This was despite having just 24% possession and a man sent off in the second leg at the Nou Camp.

This led to an encounter between the champions of Italy and Germany and it would involve Bayern Munich once again coming up short in a European final, losing 2-0 to Inter Milan at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid.

In short, both sides had impressive qualities to admire, the telepathic understanding that strikers Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole had as a partnership certainly was one of the Manchester United sides’ strengths and they had the crucial support of Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunner Solskjaer.

While Inter Milan had the impressive organisation of Javier Zanetti, the marauding runs of the Brazilian full back Maicon and the clinical finishing of Samuel Eto'o and Diego Milito.

Overall, however, most football followers when it comes to it will remember the drama and the unbeaten European campaign of ‘Ferguson's Red Devils’.
