The world of football is likely to experience drastic changes in the coming years.As a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the beautiful game will have to adapt and it is all but certain that fans will be unable to attend matches for quite some time.The prospect of playing games behind-closed-doors is far from an attractive one, but it's the only logical solution to help prevent spreading the Covid-19 virus.But Danish Super League side FC Midtjylland are planning to test out a way around playing games without supporters in attendance - to some degree.They are going to setup two big screens outside the MCH Arena with space for 10,000 fans to watch the game in 2000 cars.The concept of 'drive-in football' sounds quite bizarre, with the club stating that they intend to have commentary transmitted to the vehicles through a special frequency during the game.
Midtjylland marketing and support director Preben Rokkjaer said: "In the coming time when we unfortunately have to play the Super League without spectators, we are working hard to create the best possible experience.
"[Drive-in football] will go a long way to giving something back to the region and our many loyal fans.
"We have a stated goal of creating the best stadium experience and coronavirus doesn't change that, it just provides some other preconditions. We are in close dialogue with the police, the Herning Municipality and MCH to create a safe framework and security for everyone."
If a test involving 2000 cars proves to be successful, the club will look to increase the numbers allowed to attend.
On the face of it, the Danish club's idea looks pretty decent.
However, it could only be applied to club's of smaller stature. Just imagine 100,000 Barcelona fans in their cars waiting outside the Camp Nou?!
In that scenario, it's illogical, but the idea could prove beneficial to some in the coming months.
