Samir Nasri is set to be sacked by Anderlecht for going AWOL during coronavirus lockdown

Samir Nasri is set to be sacked by Anderlecht in the coming days, according to reports.

The former Arsenal and Manchester City midfielder only joined the Belgian outfit in July on a free transfer.

Yet in another bizarre twist in his career, that contract is now expected to be cut short due to the Frenchman going AWOL during the coronavirus lockdown.

Per Belgian publication Derniere Huere and their report cited in the Daily Mail, Nasri has refused to contact his employers after flying to Dubai.

Players were asked to inform the club of their movements and training schedule, but he is the only one who has broken the rule.

The 32-year-old had hoped to get his career back on track at Anderlecht having been handed an opportunity by his former City teammate Vincent Kompany.

So far, he has only played five league games and has struggled to keep fit.

The campaign then ended altogether, in Belgium at least. The Belgian Pro League was the first major European league to be finalised, with Club Brugge officially declared champions.

Regardless, Anderlecht still expected to be made aware of their players’ individual routines and they will take action against Nasri after he would not adhere to that rule.

While this looks like a new low from which it will be hard for him to bounce back, it’s no secret when he started to go off track.

In 2018, Nasri uploaded a photo of himself at the ‘Drip Doctors’ clinic in LA after receiving treatment there.

That led to an 18-month ban due to World Anti-Doping Agency regulations and he has never been the same player since.

His last spell in England had come in a brief stint at West Ham, where he made five appearances and failed to score.

It’s almost hard to believe this is the same player who used to terrorise Premier League defences on the regular and won two titles and a League Cup.

On this occasion, it seems Nasri only has himself to blame.
