We don’t know when the Premier League will return but that won’t stop clubs preparing for next season.
If the coronavirus pandemic hadn’t halted proceedings, the 2019/20 season would be drawing to a close. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, clubs would have been drawing up shortlists for the impending transfer window.
In fact, despite there being no football, that is still the case.
Failure to prepare - and strengthen - your squad for the resumption of football could prove costly.
One club that certainly seems to be working hard behind the scenes are Manchester United.
Reports suggest they’re closing in on a deal with Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, while they’ve also been linked with Jack Grealish.
However, one player they won’t be signing is Harry Kane.
It’s been suggested the England captain could leave Tottenham this summer and Old Trafford was being tipped as a possible destination.
But at the hefty price of £200 million, United have said “no thanks.”
And one of the reasons they aren’t willing to break the bank to sign the striker is because Ole Gunnar Solskjaer thinks Marcus Rashford is just as good as Kane.
According to The Sun, Solskjaer believes Rashford can be as good as Kane coming off the back of his best goalscoring campaign to date.
Rashford, 22, has scored 19 goals in all competitions this season taking his tally to 64 goals in 201 appearances for the club.
As for Kane, he’s managed 17 goals this season with injuries hampering him throughout. In total, though, he’s scored 181 goals in 278 appearances for Spurs.
It’s probably far too early to be comparing Rashford to such a prolific goalscorer but Solskjaer clearly rates his man highly.
And it seems he’s not prepared to hamper Rashford’s progress by signing a big-name striker this summer.
