Conor McGregor has released never-before-seen footage of his last sparring session before defeating Donald Cerrone on his UFC return back in January.
The footage was uploaded by TheMacLife – the media company owned by the UFC star - and it showed his final preparations before his 40-second KO against the 36-year-old.
The video showed the 31-year-old Irishman hitting pads with striking coach Owen Roddy followed by a few rounds of sparring.
With just a week out from fighting, McGregor’s accuracy and speed was on show as he landed some breathtaking shots, even when the spars were light.
Without a UFC win for three years at that point, the southpaw admitted that he couldn’t hold back his energy as he grew in anticipation, which the video showed.
McGregor said: “Now I'm trying to hold it, right? I just wanna go now, I'm up for a fight.
“This is the part where you've got to hold it, to bottle it in there, and then release it in there.”
He decided to eliminate his gruelling weight to cut it at lightweight, where he made his Octagon return at welterweight.
And the former two-division champion beamed as he revealed his stress-free training camp which involved enhancing his power.
McGregor added: “Happy days, phenomenal camp. I just want to fight, man. I've been training for it for so long now.
“Usually when you're cutting weight you don't feel that, you've got the weight cut to worry about, so this is a little new to me.
“I'm just eager to go, so they're trying to pull me back on the reigns and I'm just raring to go.”
The decision to move up a division paid off following his first-round victory, but, even though he won at welterweight, UFC boss Dana White initially promised the Irishman a thrilling rematch against lightweight king Khabib Nurmagomedov.
However, The Notorious’ recovery back to the title has taken a hit after Nurmagomedov's defence against Tony Ferguson was scrapped amid the coronavirus pandemic.
