The Arsenal legend was the complete footballer in his hay day, a physical presence with immense skill and a keen eye for important goals.
His achievements with the Gunners will never be forgotten, but it's not often you hear someone wax lyrical about his brilliance on international duty with France.
But make no mistake, Vieira - who earned 107 senior caps for Les Bleus - was an absolute monster at the base of France's midfield alongside the iconic Claude Makelele.

Thankfully for the towering midfielder and the likes of Thierry Henry, they had secured World Cup glory eight years earlier on home soil - Vieira actually only made two appearances in the 1998 tournament.
