Players were split into three groups, with the winner of each progressing through to the final.

In the first group, Terry came out on top against Jamie Carragher, Tony Adams and Jaap Stam. The Chelsea legend got 58.5% of the votes.

Ferdinand emerged from the second group, which also featured Vincent Kompany, Ledley King and Ricardo Carvalho.

And Vidic completed the final line-up after finishing ahead of Van Dijk, Marcel Desailly and Sol Campbell in the final group.

Liverpool’s Van Dijk is the reigning PFA and UEFA Player of the Year, and he finished second to Lionel Messi at the 2019 Ballon d’Or.

Yet he didn’t even reach the final after only managing 29% of votes.

So Terry comes out on top. Wayne Rooney called him the toughest defender he's ever faced and he won't be alone in that thought.

Captain. Leader. Legend.
