Muhammad Ali has been named the heavyweight king after nearly over 500,000 fan votes

Following a Twitter poll voted on by 500,000 people, 88% of people think Muhammad Ali would beat George Foreman in a rematch.

Only 12% of boxing fans believe George Foreman would have got revenge on Ali.

On October 30 1974, Ali defeated Foreman with a perfectly timed combination in the eighth round en-route to winning via KO at Rumble in the Jungle.

Insiders say that Foreman and his team actually prayed in his dressing room before the fight that Foreman would not kill Ali, as the anticipation was that Ali was simply no match for Foreman.

How wrong Foreman’s team were.

Muhammad Ali finished his professional boxing career with a record of 56 wins and five losses and is still to this day regarded as one of the greatest of all time, with many still arguing that he is the undisputed greatest of all time.

With Ali winning the vote by such a landslide, it does ask the question of whether many newer boxing fans really understand the illustrious career of George Foreman.

Foreman was the heavy favourite leading up to the fight and many thought that with his strength, he had the capability of killing a man inside the ring.

Foreman heading into the fight with Ali was unbeaten and eventually ended his career in 1997 with a record of 76 wins (68 KOs) and five losses.

Foreman was inducted into the International Boxing hall of Fame in 2003.

A rematch, despite it unfortunately not happening, could have ended very differently.

Although Ali was the number 1 contender for heavyweight champion of the world, Foreman overlooked him and had good reason to as he was in the best form of his life going into the fight with a record of 44-0.

No one was on his level, and with his punching power it was believed he could beat anyone.
If there was anyone currently in heavyweight boxing who you could make a rough comparison to Foreman, it would be Deontay Wilder.

Wilder looked unstoppable with his pure power, until Tyson Fury, the better fighter on the night, came along and picked him off.

Even though it feels almost disrespectful to compare such a great to a current fighter, Wilder is the closest fighter to Foreman in terms of style.

Had Foreman not completely overlooked Ali, the fight could have ended differently and a rematch could have determined who really was the better fighter.

The people have spoken in numbers and they think it would have been Ali who would have come out victorious again, however had the rematch happened, the world of boxing may have been very surprised.
