Arsenal icon Thierry Henry has been crowned the Premier League’s greatest-ever striker.The former France international prevailed in a fan vote that pitted him against Sergio Aguero and Alan Shearer in the final.Football Tweet ran the poll on Twitter and, after thousands of votes were cast, it was Henry who came out on top.The Gunners hero enjoyed a special career with Arsenal, becoming the club’s record goalscorer with 228 goals.He struck fear into opposing defences with his pace, power and finishing abilities.“You’re the only player I ever played against who I was worried about playing against before the match,” former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher told Henry last year. “You got into my head.”
Henry received 52.4% of the votes in the final, ahead of former Newcastle forward Shearer (30.4%) and Man City’s Aguero (17.2%).
Players were split into three groups, with the winner of each progressing through to the final.
Henry breezed through the first group, which also featured Didier Drogba, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Andy Cole.
In the second group, Aguero came out on top against Robin van Persie, Luis Suarez and Harry Kane.
And Shearer, the Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer, reached the final after receiving the most votes in a group that also had Wayne Rooney, Dennis Bergkamp and Michael Owen.
Are there really any arguments about Henry winning the vote?
The Frenchman was devastating for Arsenal, winning the PFA Player of the Year award twice and being included in the PFA Team of the Year on six separate occasions.
He won the Premier League Golden Boot four times in what was a dominant period for Henry and Arsenal.
Arsenal won the title with Henry leading the line in 2001/02 and 2003/04.
He left for Barcelona in 2007 and the Premier League hasn’t seen anything like him since.
