Carl Froch reiterates belief he'd knock Joe Calzaghe out and that he's 'too big' for Canelo

Froch states that a fight between him and Calzaghe would not go the distance and that he'd be walking away victorious by knocking out the Welshman.

Earlier this month, Carl Froch admitted that he'd come out of retirement in order to fight Joe Calzaghe.

The now retired and Sky Sports Boxing pundit believes that he would “flatten” the Welshman, who is also retired, but was formerly undefeated.

Calzaghe laughed off Froch’s call out for a fight between the pair, as he said that he would’ve been too sharp for Froch in the first place.

As previously mentioned, the Welsh fighter has been in retirement from boxing since 2009, so it is unlikely we would ever see him come out of his 11-year retirement.

Froch, However, remains adamant that had the pair fought, he would have walked away victorious, which in turn would’ve dealt Calzaghe his first ever professional loss.

Whilst speaking to Fight Night, Froch said, as per talkSPORT: “I’ve said many times, I think I’d have knocked him out. I think I’d have been too much for him.

“He’s been dropped a couple of times – he’s been dropped by a guy called Kabary Salem, an Egyptian guy I was training with in New York and he told me that Calzaghe doesn’t punch hard, it’s no problem.

“If someone doesn’t punch hard against me, I close the distance and then I try and land that upper cut, that big upper cut or that big right hand.

“We’ll never never know, will we? But I back myself to beat Joe Calzaghe and I’d back myself to beat Canelo [Saul Alvarez].”

During this most recent tirade, Froch also claimed that he’d back himself to beat Canelo Alvarez as well, stating that: “If I’d boxed Canelo Alvarez, I don’t think I can be knocked out, but you never know he might have knocked me out.

“I might’ve outboxed him, I think I’m too big for him. I just think height and reach is a big advantage in boxing and I had that over GGG (Gennady Golovkin), I had it over Canelo Alvarez as well.”

Froch finishes by saying that the Calzaghe bout would have definitely been a close and hard fight, and even admitted that the Welshman would have ‘comfortably’ won on points, before insisting that that simply wouldn't have been the case as he would've got the job done before the final bell.
