Ranking Man United's strikers since 2000 in order from worst to best

Manchester United have had a lot of quality strikers this century.

The Red Devils started off the 2000/01 season with Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole leading the line.

Since then, they've had other world class strikers such as Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney.

But, while they've had numerous world-class strikers, they've also had some poor ones.

David Bellion and Diego Forlan are just two players that failed to impress during their stints at Man United.

We've taken a look at Man United's strikers this century and ranked them from worst to best.

Players must have played at least 10 games to be considered.

Players have been ranked solely by their performances for United from the 2000/01 season onwards.

24. David Bellion

Bellion signed for United as a 21-year-old in 2003 but he never fulfilled his potential.

He scored just four Premier League goals in 24 games for United.

23. Radamel Falcao

Falcao arrived at United with a big reputation but he failed to adapt to the Premier League.

He scored four times in 29 games during his only season at United.

22. Federico Macheda

Macheda started his career off at United with a bang. He scored a dramatic last-minute winner on his debut against Aston Villa at the age of just 17.

But he failed to push on and scored just five goals in 36 games for the club.

21. Henrik Larsson

Larsson arrived at the club past his prime. He notched three goals in 13 games for the Red Devils.

20. Michael Owen

The English striker scored 17 times in 52 games for the club, which is a decent return.

But he was past his best during his spell at the club and injury problems limited him to just 20 appearances in his final two seasons.

19. Mason Greenwood

Greenwood is a hard one to rank. He's already made 40 appearances for the club at the age of 18, scoring 12 times.

He looks a real star for the future and he could go on to become one of Man United's best strikers in the Premier League era.

18. Diego Forlan

The Uruguayan struggled at United, scoring just 17 times in 98 games after signing for £7 million in 2002.

He left in 2004 and went on to have great success at Villarreal and Atletico Madrid.

17. Alan Smith

Smith is another hard one to rank. He was signed as a striker in 2004 before converting to a midfielder.

He notched 12 times in 93 games for the club in a three season spell.

16. Danny Welbeck

Welbeck progressed through the youth system at United and made his debut in 2008.

He went on to score 29 goals in 142 games before making the £16m move to Arsenal in 2014.

15. Romelu Lukaku

United thought they had their striker spot filled for many years when they splashed out £75m on Lukaku in 2017.

But he was ridiculed during his spell with the club for his poor touch.

Lukaku lasted two seasons with United, scoring 42 times, before leaving for Inter Milan last summer.

14. Louis Saha

Saha suffered from multiple injuries and was largely only a backup during his five seasons at the club.

He scored 42 times in 124 games and helped the club to two Premier League titles.

13. Anthony Martial

The Frenchman has largely played as a winger during his time at the club, but he's been included on the list as he's played the 2019/20 campaign as a striker.

Martial has impressed in his first season as Man United's number nine, scoring 16 times in 34 games.

12. Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Zlatan arrived at United in his mid-30s and with his best days behind him.

But he impressed in his first season in England, scoring 28 times in 46 games.

Unfortunately, he suffered a serious knee injury which shortened his stay at the club.

11. Dwight Yorke

Let me just reiterate that players are only judged on their performances for United from the 2000/01 season onwards. Otherwise, Yorke would be rated much higher.

He lost his place as a regular starter during the 2000/01 season and left the club for Blackburn Rovers in 2002.

10. Andy Cole

Cole was prolific for United during the 1990s but he wasn't the same player at the turn of the century.

He struggled for first team opportunities after the arrival of Ruud van Nistelrooy in 2001 and would join Blackburn for £8 million in January 2002.

9. Teddy Sheringham

Sheringham had his best season for Man United in the 2000/01 season, scoring 21 goals in 43 games.

Despite his form in front of goal, his contract expired in the summer of 2001 and he went on to re-join Tottenham.

8. Javier Hernandez

'Chicharito' was a reliable striker for United during his five years at the club.

In total, he scored 59 times in 157 games and helped United to two Premier League titles.

7. Marcus Rashford

The Englishman has had a breakout season at United, scoring 19 times for the club.

Still only 22, Rashford has already made 200 appearances for the Red Devils.

He is well on his way to becoming one of United's best forwards of the Premier League era.

6. Carlos Tevez

Tevez formed a formidable trio up front with Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney.

He notched 34 goals in two seasons before joining Manchester City in 2009.

5. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

The ultimate super sub. When United needed a goal, Solskjaer usually came off the bench to provide it.

From the 2000/01 season onwards, the Norwegian scored 65 goals in 207 games for the club.

Unfortunately, he suffered serious injuries towards the end of his spell and he retired from football in 2007.

4. Dimitar Berbatov

What a genius the Bulgarian was.

Berbatov signed for United £31 million in 2008 and that proved to be a shrewd piece of business by Sir Alex Ferguson.

He scored 56 goals for United in four seasons and won the Premier League golden boot in the 2010/11 campaign.

3. Robin van Persie

Van Persie almost single-handedly won the Premier League title for Man United in 2012/13.

The Dutchman was lethal in front of goal that campaign, scoring 30 times as Sir Alex Ferguson's last season in charge ended with another Premier League title.

In total, Van Persie scored 58 times in 105 games for the club.
