Paralympic medallist Oksana Masters is one of three sportswomen to join the Women's Sports Foundation Athlete Advisory Panel.

Masters has competed in summer and winter Paralympic games representing the US and has eight medals to her name in biathlon, cross-country skiing and rowing.

Insidethegames reports that American bobsledder, Aja Evans and softball player Rachel Garcia have also joined the Women's Sports Foundation panel.

The charity is based in America and was founded by Billie Jean King to promote the participation of women in sport. Alana Nichols, the foundation's president is the chair of the panel.

Masters tweeted about her new role: "I could not be more proud and honoured to join the Women's Sports Fdn Athlete Advisory Panel alongside these incredible women. #WomensSportsFoundation mission is everything I believe in and is important to me."

Evans also tweeted her reaction: "Honored to be joining these game changers and the Women's Sports Fdn Athlete Advisory Panel! Thank you WSF!"

Garcia echoed their sentiments: "I am super proud and honoured to be a part of this panel and promote the Women's Sports Foundation and it's mission."

The Women's Sports Foundation was founded by tennis legend King in 1974 to help women and girls find their potential in life through sport. They now provide financial aid for aspiring champions, fund research and help girls engage in sports at grassroots.

The athlete advisory panel allows sportswomen to share their experiences with the organisation and further their mission.

The Tokyo Games would be Masters' fifth Paralympics. She won two gold medals at the Pyeongchang winter games. At Rio 2016 she competed in cycling, finishing just outside the medals in the road race and time trial.
