With the footballing season coming to a grinding halt due to the emergence of the coronavirus, we've been left with not much to do but to twiddle our thumbs. So, we decided to settle a mini-debate.

Who's the better striker, Karim Benzema or Edinson Cavani?

Since his arrival in the Spanish capital in 2009, Benzema has netted on over 160 occasions for Los Blancos. The Frenchmen has added a sense of stability and familiarity to Real Madrid, as Benzema has recorded over 330 appearances for the Spanish side.

Edinson Cavani, on the other hand, is a different beast entirely. The Uruguayan marksman signed for Paris Saint-Germain from Napoli in 2013 and has gone onto make 200 appearances for the Parisians, scoring 138 times.

Therefore, with both of their footballing CV's on the table, we let the GiveMeSport readers decide who was the greater striker. After over 59,000 voters having their say, we have a winner.

And that man is Real Madrid's number nine, Benzema.

56% of voters decided that the French marksman trumps the PSG striker. After gazing over the comments section, it appears there's an overwhelming level of support that would certainly soothe Benzema's ego.

Michael John Buck said, "Benzema for sure. He reminds me a lot of Rooney in the sense that he always just plays the role he's needed for Madrid, no questions.

"Both could have had far more prolific goal tallies for their clubs if they'd been more selfish. But instead just done what's best for their clubs and the players around them."

In addition, GiveMeSport reader Benny Selwood highly praised the Real Madrid striker.

"I really like Cavani but in my opinion, Benzema is one of the most underrated players to ever play the game, ever!"

Within recent times, Cavani has struggled to flourish in the French capital, with Mauro Icardi leading the PSG frontline before the suspension of Ligue 1.

Therefore, with a lack of available minutes and the striker passing his 33rd birthday, we could see one final move from the Uruguyuan very soon.
