WNBA star Diana Taurasi is not planning on retiring anytime soon but has started thinking about what she might look to do once her impressive playing career comes to an end.

During an Instagram live conversation with fellow WNBA player Sue Bird and Bird’s girlfriend USA soccer co-captain Megan Rapinoe, Taurasi shared what she thinks might come next - investing in women’s sport.

The four-hour conversation covered a range of topics, with Taurasi discussing her Olympic ambitions and prospects for rookies in the WNBA following the recent draft. But Taurasi revealed that her ambitions to invest in women’s sports comes from a current lack of female investors and owners.

"Where are the rich women? I'm so disappointed in the women that have a lot of money," Taurasi told Bird and Rapinoe.

"Sometimes you invest in things that don't make money yet, but you want to make them better.

“It’s funny. Everyone’s like, ‘Do you want to be a coach? Do you want to be a GM?’ No, I want to own it, I want to own a team!”

Ambitions for Tokyo 2021

Taurasi, the veteran Phoenix Mercury guard, revealed that despite being sidelined for much of the 2019 WNBA season with injury, she still has ambitions to play at the Olympics in Tokyo next summer.

Tokyo 2021 would be Taurasi's fifth Olympics, a truly impressive feat, but she remains realistic about the likelihood of being fit enough for the tournament.

"I'm realistic. If I'm not good enough, I should not be on the [USA] team," she said.

"They should put the team together that has the best chance to win. It's not the best players -- it's the best ensemble of complementary players.

"And if you don't think I can give you that, I'm out. I've played in four Olympics. I'm grateful for that."
