Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has called for the Premier League to crown Liverpool as champions if the season can't be completed.

Jurgen Klopp’s side needed just two more wins to clinch the title before the coronavirus pandemic halted football around the world.

The Reds have won a ridiculous 27 of their 29 matches during the 2019/20 season and are currently 25 points clear of Manchester City.

But with leagues being cancelled around Europe, there’s suddenly a danger that the Premier League won’t be able to continue.

What will happen then?

Well, whatever happens, Chelsea’s Rudiger is a firm believer that Liverpool fully deserve to be crowned champions.

"Honestly, as far as I'm concerned they can give Liverpool the title," Rudiger told ZDF, per the Daily Mail.

"At the end of the day they deserve it, they've had a great season and are leading the table with, oh I don't know how many points.

"The thing is they were going to win the thing anyway, so I think the title is theirs ethically."

Despite the likes of France’s Ligue 1 deciding they won’t be finishing their 2019/20 season, the Premier League appear to be pressing on with their ‘Project Restart’ plans with June 8 pencilled in as a potential start date.

But Rudiger is wary that returning to football before it’s safe to do so is dangerous.

"Of course, I hope that the season can be finished and it will be sporting for everyone," Rudiger added.

"But, as I've said before if we continue to play and there is a danger, and we ignore that while people are dying somewhere in the world, I don't know if that would sit right on my conscience."
