Arsenal's strikers since 2000 ranked in order from worst to best

Arsenal have had a few world-class strikers since the turn of the century.

In 2000, the Gunners had Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry leading the line, arguably two of the greatest Premier League strikers ever.

Robin van Persie took over the mantle and now they have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as their marquee player.

But, they've also had their fair share of poor strikers, including Yaya Sanogo, Marouane Chamakh and Yaya Sanogo.

We'e taken a look at every striker that has played for the club since the 2000/01 season and ranked them from worst to best.

Players must have played the majority of their games for Arsenal up front.

That means the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott have not been included.

Players must have also been first team players, while only their performances from the 2000/01 season have been taken into account.

21. Yaya Sanogo

Sanogo was highly thought of when he joined the club at the age of 20.

But he only scored once in 20 games before leaving permanently in 2017.

20. Park Chu-young

Arsenal's signing of Chu-young was extremely strange.

After netting 12 Ligue 1 goals for Monaco in the 2010/11 campaign, Arsene Wenger decided to bring him to north London.

Despite being handed the number nine shirt, the South Korean was never really given a chance.

He made just one Premier League appearance for the club, coming on as an 82nd minute substitute vs Man United. In all, he played just seven times, scoring once.

19. Jérémie Aliadière

Aliadiere was another young French striker who was highly thought of at Arsenal.

He played 28 times for the club, scoring four times.

18. Francis Jeffers

Jeffers didn't live up to expectations after signing from Everton in 2001 for a deal worth £10m.

He only managed eight goals in 39 games for the club.

17. Carlos Vela

Vela is now tearing up MLS as a winger, but he played the majority of games up front for Arsenal.

He managed 11 goals in 62 games but didn't quite do enough to establish himself as a first-team regular.

16. Marouane Chamakh

Chamakh lasted just three years at the club, scoring 14 goals in 67 games.

15. Eddie Nketiah

Nketiah is a hard one to rank given he's just started his career at Arsenal.

He's made a promising start to life in the first-team, scoring six times in 26 games.

If he keeps progressing, he could be an Arsenal striker for many years to come.

14. Lucas Pérez

Another player who didn't get many first-team chances, for whatever reason.

He only lasted one season at the club, scoring seven times in 21 games.

The Spaniard is currently having a decent season in La Liga with Alaves.

13. Nicklas Bendtner

Bendtner oozed confidence, a trait you need to be a successful striker. But he wasn't anywhere near as good as he thought he was.

In total, he managed 45 goals in 171 games for the club.

12. Eduardo

A prolific striker in Croatia with Dinamo Zagreb, Eduardo didn't have the same success in England.

Unfortunately, he suffered a nasty leg break in his first season with the club and wasn't the same striker when he returned.

11. Danny Welbeck

A good striker on his day, Welbeck suffered injury after injury with the Gunners.

In total, he notched 32 goals in 126 games for Arsenal before departing last summer.

10. Lukas Podolski

Podolski was a lot better striker than he got credit for.

He actually managed a goal or an assist every 109 minutes in England's top tier, which is the 10th highest ratio since the Premier League was formed.

9. Nwankwo Kanu

If performances before 2000 were taken into account, Kanu may find himself higher up the list.

A classy striker, the Nigerian scored 20 goals in 131 games for the club.

8. Alexandre Lacazette

A lot was expected of Lacazette when he made the £46.5 million switch to Arsenal.

He hasn't quite lived up to the hype though. 45 goals in 114 games is a decent return, but a player of his calibre should be doing more.

7. Emmanuel Adebayor

Adebayor was a decent striker in his four season spell at Arsenal.

He was incredible in the 2007/08 season, scoring 24 Premier League goals and adding six more in cup competitions.

But he ruined his reputation with Arsenal fans when he signed for Man City in 2009, before going on to produce 'that' celebration against the Gunners.

He then angered Arsenal fans even more by signing for Tottenham Hotspur in 2011.

6. Sylvain Wiltord

Wiltord was a player who did a job wherever he lined up in the front three positions.

A popular figure with Arsenal fans, the Frenchman scored 49 times in 175 games for the club.

He also played his part in Arsenal's invincible campaign of 2003/04.

5. Olivier Giroud

Giroud has never been given the respect he has deserved during his career.

The Frenchman has always been a technically superb forward who's good in the air and gets goals.

He notched 105 goals in 253 games for the club before departing for Chelsea in 2017.

4. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Arsenal smashed their club record fee for a player when they splashed out £60m for Aubameyang in 2018. That's proven to be money well spent.

The past few years have been tough for Arsenal but that's not the Gabonese striker's fault, who has scored 61 times in 97 games.

3. Robin van Persie

Van Persie joined in the summer of 2004; the start of Arsenal's downward spiral. He was a good servant for the club, though.

The Dutchman got better as every season went by. He had his best season in the 2011/12 campaign, notching an impressive 30 Premier League goals.

Unfortunately for Arsenal, that season proved to be his last. He ended up breaking Arsenal hearts when he joined Manchester United.

To add insult to injury, Van Persie won the title in his first season with his new club and the Gunners were forced to give him and United a guard of honour at the Emirates Stadium.
