Ricky Hatton is convinced Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will fight, insisting ‘there’s no way it cannot happen’.

Joshua and Fury currently hold every heavyweight title belt between them, and both are angling for a chance to unify the division.

The British pair are both coming off the back of impressive wins against the likes of Andy Ruiz Jr and Deontay Wilder respectively.

Joshua currently holds the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles with Fury holding onto the recently acquired WBC title belt after a devasting victory over the ‘Bronze Bomber’ prior to the world going into lockdown.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn is desperate for the British heavyweights to lock horns and go toe-to-toe in a matchup potentially crowning the first undisputed heavyweight champion since the days of Lennox Lewis.

Joshua is next scheduled to fight Kubrat Pulev, while Fury is looking likely to head into a trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder. It is heavily rumoured, however, that both Fury and Joshua are desperate for their scheduled opponents to step aside to allow for the all-British unification bout get underway, once and for all.

Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, both Joshua and Fury’s representatives are reportedly in talks in an attempt to get the fight delivered.

Hatton, who held titles at welterweight and light-welterweight, believes that it is inevitable that the fight will be made.

Talking to TalkSport, Hatton stated:

“I have been a fan of the game and a fan of British fighters past and the present.

“I remember years ago we would have two British lads competing for the title – but I had never heard of them.

“Now we have two of the best with different styles and different personalities. There’s no way it cannot happen.”

In what would certainly be the biggest fight the British heavyweight division has produced for some years, it begs the question that it is just a matter of ‘when’ rather than ‘what if’; surely, it’s the fight everybody wants to see and with any luck, it’s the fight that we will see.
