It’s a shame that the name ‘Ronaldo’ doesn’t always bring up thoughts of the great Brazilian forward Ronaldo Nazario these days.

That wasn’t the case 20 years ago, but Cristiano Ronaldo’s emergence, and eventual dominance, has meant the South American is no longer the most popular Ronaldo in the world.

But his talents should never be forgotten. He was extraordinary.

Injuries prevented Ronaldo from flourishing at the top for as long as he could have. He would be many more people’s choice for the greatest of all time were it not for recurring health problems.

They didn’t prevent Jose Mourinho from putting El Fenomeno at the top of his list, though.

“If we are talking strictly about talent and skill, nobody surpasses Ronaldo [Nazario],” Mourinho told LiveScore.

“When he was at Barcelona with Bobby Robson, I realised that he was the best player I'd ever seen take to the field.”

Ronaldo hung up his boots in 2011 but returned to Real Madrid’s Bernabeu stadium six years later for a charity game between Los Blancos and AS Roma legends.

A host of famous names took part, including Roberto Carlos, Luis Figo, Raul, Cafu and Fernando Morientes, but the crowd were most excited to watch Ronaldo.

And he gave viewers plenty to smile out during a 33-minute appearance in the first half.

A goal would have been the icing on the cake but it was still thoroughly enjoyable to watch the legend in action.

We suggest you start with THIS video of him smashing it as a teenager for PSV. Enjoy.
