If Liverpool do win this season’s Premier League title, it would go some way towards finally exorcising the demons that remain from the 2013-14 campaign. The Reds capitulated during the final weeks of that season, losing 2-0 at home to Chelsea on April 27 before drawing 3-3 with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park a week later.Liverpool, who were managed by Brendan Rodgers at the time, missed out on their first league title since 1990 by two points.Manchester City were crowned champions after winning their five remaining Premier League fixtures. It was a bitter pill to swallow for everyone associated with Liverpool - but it was especially tough for captain Steven Gerrard, whose infamous slip against Chelsea is pinpointed as the moment the Reds threw it all away. However, the 3-3 draw against Palace on May 5, 2014, was arguably just as costly as the defeat to Chelsea.Liverpool would have sat three points clear of Man City, who had a game in hand, with just one fixture left to play had they won the game. But the 3-3 draw meant Liverpool sat just one point clear of Manuel Pellegrini’s side - with an inferior goal difference of +50 compared to +59 - and now required a miracle in order to win the title.Crystal Palace v Liverpool - Premier LeagueJoe Allen broke the deadlock for Liverpool in the 18th minute before Damien Delaney’s own goal just after half-time and a Luis Suarez strike gave the visitors a seemingly unassailable 3-0 lead. But Delaney’s screamer in the 79th minute unnerved Liverpool, who went on to concede two additional goals from Dwight Gayle in the final 10 minutes. It was all too much for Suarez, who was left in tears after the final whistle. The Uruguayan would leave Liverpool that summer for Barcelona.FBL-ENG-PR-CRYSTAL PALACE-LIVERPOOLTo mark the six-year anniversary of the game known as ‘Crystanbul’, Manchester City fan @City_Xtra has posted a funny/cruel (depending on your point of view) video of that fateful evening. It features the Coffin Dance, with various Man City players from that season superimposed over the Dancing Pallbearers.Unless you’re a Liverpool fan still reeling from Crystanbul, it’s hard not to laugh…

The internet comes up trumps once again.

Liverpool are still seeking their first league title since 1990 but will almost certainly be crowned champions within the next couple of months unless the season is cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Reds possess a huge 25 point lead at the top of the table with nine fixtures left to play.
