19-time Grand Slam Tennis Champion Rafael Nadal has given his brutally honest take on what the remainder of the 2020 tennis season will look like.

Sadly, he doesn't have high hopes.

It was a somber interview, but in this time he expects the worst, which is for both the French Open and the US Open to be cancelled.

This is of course stemming from the COVID-19 crisis, which has caused multiple sporting events, such as Wimbledon, to be cancelled completely all across the world. What will probably come next is only more cancellations in the sport of tennis.

The French Open organisers have postponed it's usual May start date until September. They haven't officially cancelled it yet, as the organisers are desperate to get the clay-court major played this year with same being true of the US Open organisers.

They are pressing to get their event played in August. Nadal, who has 12 French Open titles and is the Number 2 ranked player in the world, is the defending champion in both events.

Most recently, he won his 85th career ATP Title in Acapulo.

Though the event organisers are pressing forward, the Spaniard known as 'Rafa' is preparing for both events to be cancelled.

He was asked about this, in which he confirmed his thinking. "I hope so but I don't think so unfortunately," he said after being asked by El Pais if he thinks tennis will return this year. He then added:

"I would take being ready for 2021.

"I'm more concerned with the Australian Open than what happens later this year. I see 2020 as practically lost"

"My feeling and I say it sadly, I won't lie to you, is that we're losing a year of our lives. And at 33, 34 years old, that is more valuable than at 20 years old, when you have a lot more ahead."
