On this day in 2019, Liverpool completed one of the greatest comebacks in football history. The Reds looked to be on the brink of Champions League heartache for the second season running after suffering a 3-0 defeat against Barcelona during the first leg of their semi-final.Former Liverpool hero Luis Suarez fired the Catalans into the lead at Camp Nou, before a brace from Lionel Messi that included than otherworldly free-kick looked to have killed off the tie.You got the impression that it simply wasn't Liverpool's year when Mohamed Salah missed a golden chance for an away goal and Ousmane Dembele could easily have fired Barca into a 4-0 lead. But everything changes when you travel to Anfield and boy did Liverpool prove that on May 7, 2019.

Liverpool's iconic comeback

Despite the absence of key men Salah and Roberto Firmino, Klopp's men flew out of the blocks and cult hero Divock Origi continued his streak of important goals by bagging the opener.

Barca managed to hold on until half-time, but the inspired decision to introduce Georginio Wijnaldum at the break would ultimately bring about the visitor's downfall.

The Dutch midfielder bagged Liverpool's second in the 54th minute by firing through Marc-Andre ter Stegen, before drawing the aggregate score level with a bullet header just two minutes later.

TAA's legendary quick corner

Then the most iconic moment of all.

While the Barca defence was napping, Trent Alexander-Arnold had a eureka moment to take the corner quickly, dashing back to whip an instinctive cross low into the penalty area.

A baffled Gerard Pique and Ter Stegen watched in horror as the ball flighted perfectly into the path of Origi who, as if with ice running through his veins, swept his shot into the far corner. 4-0.

With only 12 minutes left in the game, Liverpool showed the strength and resilience that has typified their time under Klopp to prevent an away goal and secure their place in the Madrid final.

Wild celebrations

And as the Liverpool squad and staff lapped up the remarkable atmosphere across Anfield, the Barca squad were left to trudge off in dismay at bottling yet another European advantage.

Having suffered a very similar fate against AS Roma just the season prior, it was no wonder that Messi and co. shuffled along to the dressing rooms with their heads down.

So, how time flies, hey? It seems like just yesterday that Liverpool pulled off this historic comeback, ultimately setting up their sixth European Cup by defeating Tottenham 2-0 in the final.

Only time will tell when we'll see the Reds in action next, but they'll be plenty for them to celebrate if the Premier League table is anything to go by.
