Manchester United are considering delaying their transfer swoop for Jadon Sancho by 12 months because of the COVID -19 pandemic.

Reports suggest that Borussia Dortmund are under no pressure to sell and will not lower their asking price for the England international.

The Red Devils had made Sancho their top target this summer as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to continue his cultural reboot at Old Trafford.

United have been working on a deal for months and have moved well ahead of rivals Chelsea and Liverpool in the race for the 20-year-old.

Sancho has been on scintillating form this season, netting 17 goals and providing 19 assists in all competitions for Dortmund.

United believed a deal for the winger was in place, but the coronavirus pandemic has caused the 13-time Premier League champions to reconsider their approach.

According to The Mirror, Ed Woodward could now delay a move for Sancho by 12 months due to the financial constraints that have been brought upon the club by Covid -19.

Dortmund want over £100 million for Sancho, who is seen as one of the hottest prospects in European football.

United have concerns about spending such a huge amount of money in the wake of the crisis which has left so many clubs in financial ruin.

And for that reason, Dortmund feel they can keep their starlet at Westfalenstadion for another year.

The Black and Yellows know they will eventually sell Sancho in the long-term for huge money, and have made a name for themselves in developing young talent to become the best players in Europe.

Football fans will be thrilled to know that the Bundesliga season will restart on May 15 after the German government gave the green light to return to action.

United meanwhile are determined to further strengthen their squad this summer as they look to close the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City.

Sancho is their top target, but they have also been linked to Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish and Birmingham City youngster Jude Bellingham.

There has been alternative interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona, but United firmly believe they are the preferred destination for the England winger.

Throughout these troubling times, United have been praised nation-wide for their rigorous aid in the community and firm stance on keeping staff on payroll and not adopting the government’s furlough scheme.

Harry Maguire has also been at the forefront of the Players Together Initiative and has set up a relief fund to help the elderly and vulnerable in his home town of Mosborough in South Yorkshire.
