Today is the day Liverpool fans have been waiting 30 years for.
For months, the club has been looking towards May 9 as the day they finally get their hands on the Premier League trophy.
In an alternative universe, Jurgen Klopp’s side would be hosting Chelsea in their final home game of the season.
Before the coronavirus pandemic halted proceedings in the Premier League, Liverpool were 25 points clear and needed just six points to guarantee the title.
They would have no doubt achieved that by now but would have been made to wait until now to lift that trophy.
But after their game against Chelsea, Jordan Henderson would have been performing his famous shuffle and lifting aloft the trophy in front of 54,000 supporters inside Anfield.
Of course, none of that will be happening this afternoon. In fact, none of that will be happening this season.
The Premier League’s ‘Project Restart’ plan involves playing the remaining matches of the 2019/20 season at neutral venues - and behind closed doors.
That means there is no possibility of Henderson lifting the Premier League trophy in front of a packed Anfield - at least not for a very long time.
But Liverpool fans are still holding out hope that trophy will still be theirs one way or another.
Of course, if the season does return, it won’t take long for Liverpool to be crowned champions.
But even if 2019/20 doesn't resume, the Reds will be expecting to be handed the title - like Paris Saint-Germain have in France.
It won’t quite be as glorious as their incredible seasons deserves but a 19th league title is the least they deserve.
