Justin Gaethje has defeated Tony Ferguson at UFC 249.Despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Dana White and co. were adamant on keeping the show on the road, albeit later than originally planned.Of course, the original UFC 249 date was scheduled for April 18, and it was supposed to be Ferguson against Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, due to coronavirus and the issues with travelling, the champion was stuck in his homeland of Russia. This meant for the fifth time, Ferguson vs Khabib had to be cancelled.Never wanting to let fans down, though, White was insistent that the show would go on, and began the search to replace the light heavyweight champion.Cometh the hour, cometh the man... up stepped Gaethje. After the first round, it was clear to see both men came to fight. Big punches were being landed and a lot of kicks were made, but it was Gaethje who had the early advantage. The second round was also much of the same. Huge punches being landed by Gaethje, but seemingly not impacting Ferguson at all. But, to end the round, it was Ferguson who landed an almighty uppercut that certainly wobbled his opponent. The pattern of the fight stayed the same right up until the referee waved it off, with Gaethje dishing out severe punishment to Ferguson, and leaving him looking rather battered.Funnily enough, going into the fight, both fighters were last in the Octagon against the same man... a certain Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone, who has since lost to Conor McGregor inside the first round. Both Ferguson and Gaethje defeated Cerrone, Ferguson in the second and Gaethje in the first.Due to winning at UFC 249, Gaethje now has a professional fighting record of 22 wins and two losses.

As for Ferguson, he now sits at a record of 24 wins and four defeats.

What's next for UFC and these fighters is unknown, and losing to Gaethje could cost Ferguson his shot at Khabib and/or McGregor.

However, White will no doubt have plenty of ideas in his mind, especially with Fight Island in his sights.

Earlier on in the night, there were huge wins for Anthony Pettis, Francis Ngannou, Calvin Katter and Henry Cejudo.

Not only that, though, Cejudo also announced his official retirement from UFC with immediate effect.

Sport is back. UFC is back. THANK YOU!
