Andreas Isaksson

The Swedish goalkeeper left City just a few months after that devastating loss.

He went on to play for PSV and Turkish outfit KasımpaÅŸa before returning to Sweden with Djurgårdens IF.

He retired from football in 2018.

Sun Jihai

Jihai's seven season spell with City also came to an end just months after the defeat to Middlesbrough.

He spent a season at Sheffield United in the Championship before returning to China with Chengdu Blades.

Jihai went on to play for Guizhou Renhe and Chongqing Lifan before retiring with Beijing Renhe in 2016.

Vedran Corluka 

The Croatian defender also left City months later as he joined Tottenham for £8 million.

He spent four seasons at Spurs before joining Lokomotiv Moscow in 2012.

Now 34, Corluka is still plying his trade with the Russian club.

Richard Dunne

Dunne spent nine years and made 352 appearances for City before leaving for Aston Villa in 2009.

He left for QPR in 2013 and he retired from football in 2015.

Michael Ball

Ball suffered a serious knee injury in January 2009 and was released by Man City that summer.

He spent a few years as a free agent before returning to football with Leicester City in 2011.

However, after making just three appearances for the club, he was released in January 2012 and he retired shortly after.

Stephen Ireland

Ireland left City for Aston Villa in 2010. He spent three seasons at the club before joining Stoke City in 2013.

He joined Bolton in October 2018 but left the club just a few months later without making an appearance.

Now 33, Ireland has not officially retired but he's been without a club ever since.

Gelson Fernandes

The midfielder has been at nine clubs since leaving City in 2009, including Sporting CP, FC Sion and Rennes.

He joined Eintracht Frankfurt in 2017 and he's still at the club today.

Martin Petrov

The Bulgarian winger left City for Bolton in 2010.

He spent three years at The Trotters before joining Espanyol in 2013.

Shortly after he returned to Bulgaria with CSKA Sofia and he retired from football in 2014.

Javier Garrido

Garrido went on to play for Lazio, Norwich City, Las Palmas and AEK.

Now 35, the left-back is playing for Segunda División B side, Real Union.

Darius Vassell

Vassell spent a season in Turkey with Ankaragücü before returning to England with Leicester in 2010.

He retired from football in 2012.

Benjani Mwaruwari

Benjani's City spell came to an end in 2010, where he made 31 appearances and scored seven goals.

He played for Blackburn and Portsmouth before retiring in 2014 after a short stint with Bidvest Wits.

Dietmar Hamann

Retired in 2011 after a stint with MK Dons in League One.
