The Premier League will return with a bumper weekend of matches that will become a template for the remainder of the 2019/20 season.
According to the Daily Mail, TV companies have been told to prepare to restart with one live game on Friday June 12 or June 19, followed by four more live games on Saturday and Sunday, and Monday Night Football to finish things off.
The games on Saturday and Sunday will kick-off at different times so they can all be watched.
And the restart fixture could be Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United, which was scheduled to take place on Sunday March 15.
It’s reported that Sky Sports will air five matches and BT Sport will show one each weekend, and the remaining five will be made free-to-air, potentially on YouTube or via the red button.
The traditional 3pm blackout has been dropped, meaning fixtures for the rest of the campaign can be shown at that time.
There is still a long way to go before these plans are finalised, but the desire for games to be televised is strong.
With the Premier League to return behind closed doors, the only way fans will be able to watch games is if they’re televised.
TV companies have been figuring out how to maintain the quality of their broadcasts while maintaining social distancing.
Sky are still to decide whether they will broadcast from stadiums or whether to go live from an off-side studio.
There’s also the matter of post-match interviews.
The Mail say it is likely that instead of speaking to eight or nine broadcasters, managers and players will face the media via videolink.
