Ladies and gentleman, football is back.

Ok, sure, the Belarusian Premier League never really stopped and the K-League got their season underway last week, but today marks the return of top European football as we know it.

With the very efficiency that so often comes hand-in-hand with their nation, Germany will have the eyes of the world on their sporting calendar as the Bundesliga makes an unexpected return.

Germany have been ahead of the game in drawing up plans to prevent the spread of the coronavirus amidst a sport that necessitates close contact and physicality.

With managers set to bark orders from the sidelines in surgical masks and players celebrating by touching elbows at most, it's going to be a hygienic riff on the sport we've come to love.

The Bundesliga is back

That and, yes, fans will be absent from both inside the stadiums and outside of them with strict capacity measures in force and teams automatically losing if supporters gather elsewhere.

Borussia Dortmund vs Schalke in the Revierderby is the pick of the fixtures this weekend, but title challengers Bayern Munich, Borussia Monchengladbach and RB Leipzig are also in action.

However, the return of the Bundesliga returns something bigger than just a few games for the fans, it represents the potential for more major European competitions to follow in their footsteps.

Montage of the beautiful game

Who knows, if Germany are able to execute a safe and constructive plan for all, then it might not be long before Serie A, La Liga and perhaps the Premier League in June will follow their lead.

There will also be hope that no more leagues will take the step to eradicate their season as has been seen in France, Belgium and the Netherlands.

So, in celebration of football stepping on to the road to recovery, one supporter has decided to hype up hundreds of fans on Twitter by compiling a brilliant video celebrating the beautiful game.

User @tom1zi has put together the two-minute montage that, for our money, is the perfect way to prepare for the action that's coming your way - check it out down below:

"AT LAAAAAAAAAST."

If the sight of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, amongst others, strutting their stuff in slow motion doesn't give you chills at the prospect of football returning, you're simply not human.

There's a while still until we'll see those particular stars on the pitch, but it's a tantalising taster of the sort of skills, goals and drama that the Bundesliga will offer in the coming weeks.

It's going to be brilliant seeing fans who ordinarily wouldn't pay attention to German football passionately cheering on Paderborn as if they're Chelsea and Schalke as if they're Arsenal

Well, either that or simply sitting with your feet up, beer in tow, as a neutral and just being thankful that football is back on our television screens.

We wish the Bundesliga a very safe and action-packed return.
