Research by Barclays into manager’s attitudes toward the Premier League has shown that 80% of voters believe Rafael van der Vaart has been the signing of the season.

The upcoming summer transfer period is keeping managers fairly busy, with speculation mounting that this summer could break records for transfer fees. And Van Der Vaart looks set to be high on all the top flight club’s wish lists, while Tottenham are desperate to keep the midfielder.

The survey was completed by 15 of the Baclays Premier League managers. Manchester City’s David Silva and West Bromwich Albion’s Peter Odemwingie were the only close contenders for the top signing honour, receiving 7 percent each.

Van der Vaart has starred for Tottenham since moving from Real Madrid in 2010. Having scored 10 league goals so far this season, Van Der Vaart has also shone on the European stage, with Tottenham so far making it through to the quarter finals.
