Borussia Dortmund v FC Schalke 04 - Bundesliga

Borussia Dortmund players celebrated their 4-0 win over Schalke on Saturday afternoon with their traditional thank you to an empty Yellow Wall.

Lucien Favre’s side ran out convincing winners on the Bundesliga’s return, moving one point behind Bayern Munich at the top of the table.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the 29th minute and Raphael Guerreiro made it 2-0 just before half-time.

Thorgan Hazard added a third after the restart and Guerreiro sealed the win with a fine finish.

And at the end of the game, Dortmund’s players gathered to thank an empty Yellow Wall.

Nothing ever changes.

Dortmund‘s win puts them just one point behind Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich, who face Union Berlin on Sunday.

Red Bull Leipzig entered the day a point back of Dortmund but they were held to a 1-1 draw by Freiburg.

It’s great having football back – even though it’s not football as we know it.

Substitutes sat with masks over their faces and 2 metres apart as they continued to practice social distancing.

The lack of a crowd made for an eerie atmosphere and players even carried out social distancing goal celebrations.

But we’ll take it.

Schalke coach David Wagner lamented his team’s performance after the Revierderby defeat.

“It was a poor performance and we deserved to lose,” Wagner said at full-time, per

“We weren’t brave enough today. We need to dust ourselves down and improve for next time.”
