Tennis star Eugenie Bouchard auctions off $85,000 dinner date

Canadian tennis player Eugenie Bouchard has auctioned off a £70,226 ($85,000) dinner date for charity.

The recipient is unknown, but all proceeds will go to charities helping to feed children in America, via the charity ’15 Seconds of Fame’.

The auction is part of the ‘All In Challenge’, which is run by the charity.

The lucky person will be able to attend a date with the star, as well as sit in the player’s box at a major championship such as Wimbledon or the French Open.

They will also receive trainers and a racquet as part of the package, signed by Bouchard herself.

The news was revealed on Bouchard’s Instagram account, where she said: “85k?! You guys are amazing! I’m so grateful and proud of you all for joining me on this project. I can’t wait to meet the winner!”

The package description reads: ‘Get more than your 15 seconds of fame with Genie Bouchard. The lucky winner and a guest will go to any tennis tournament of their choice.

‘Sit in the player’s box next to Genie’s team while you cheer her on to victory and enjoy a meal with the tennis star.’

This isn’t the first time she has attended a date with a fan. Back in 2017, John Goehrke successfully managed to get himself a date with the Canadian via Twitter.

He posted: “If the Patriots win we go on a date?” And luckily enough, they did, meaning Goehrke got to attend a Brooklyn Nets game with Bouchard.

The pair even had a second date together, as the relationship became a friendship.

Bouchard is an internationally successful tennis player. She reached the Wimbledon singles final in 2014, before ultimately losing to Czech Republic player Petra Kvitova.

She won the 2012 Wimbledon girls’ title and went on to become WTA Newcomer of the Year in 2013.

It looks like the sportswoman is supporting some brilliant charitable causes during her time in lockdown.
