On Sunday, we revealed how South Korean side FC Seoul had placed female dolls in their stands to help with the emptiness of the stadium.At the time, some fans were suggesting that the dolls were a little bit more sinister than just plastic mannequins.They noticed that some of the dolls held signs with the name of the popular live streamer BJ Chaero – reportedly the physical inspiration for the dolls’ design.And that has now been confirmed as FC Seoul released a statement following their match against Gwangju FC.They claim there had been a “misunderstanding” with the supplier.“We would like to apologise to the fans,” FC Seoul said in a statement on Instagram. “We are deeply sorry.”It added: “Our intention was to do something light-hearted in these difficult times. We will think hard about what we need to do to ensure that something like this never happens again.”
In total there were 30 dolls in the stands - 25 female and five male.
The K-League was supposed to start in February but that was, obviously, delayed by the coronavirus outbreak.
But they became one of the first to resume professional sport after the nation’s success in fighting the virus.
To allow football to take place, many changes have been made such as empty stands, handshakes are banned, and coaches have to wear facemasks.
"Excessive spitting or blowing of the nose is prohibited and players should refrain from close conversations," said a K League official before the first match.
