Some teammates just seem to have a telepathic understanding with each other on a football pitch.

Play with each other long enough and you know exactly what runs your teammate will make and exactly where they will be at any given moment during a match.

It’s something we’ve seen numerous times in Premier League history.

Strike partners working together, a midfielder slipping through balls through to a forward or a winger whipping in crosses for a target man - we’ve seen plenty of effective combinations in the history of England’s top-flight.

But what is the most prolific assist-goal partnership in the Premier League?

It’s a topic that Michael Cox and Sam Lee explored in The Athletic as they revealed the top 16 assist/goal combination in the Premier League.

Let’s take a look:

So, Lampard assisting Drogba is the best combination in the Premier League.

In second place, Silva and Aguero are just three goals behind. However, with Silva set to leave City at the end of the season, it remains unknown whether the City duo will be able to add to that tally.

With 20 goals to their combinations, the slightly older duo of Anderton/Sheringham at Spurs and McManmanan/Fowler occupy joint-third.

But surely the future No.1 combination is De Bruyne and Aguero, who need just five more link-ups to equal Lampard and Drogba. You’d fancy their chances of eclipsing that next season.
