This summer’s transfer window is going to be very strange.

The price of players is set to fall dramatically due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, club finances have taken a damaging hit and many will be happy to stick with what they’ve got, rather than splash the cash.

Clubs simply can’t afford to make any expensive mistakes with revenue hit by the lack of football - and the lack of paying supporters when it does return.

Because, after all, clubs don’t always get it right in the transfer window.

It’s simply impossible to ensure that every signing you make is a success.

So, the Daily Mail have decided to remember the worst signing every Premier League has made.

Let’s take a look:

Arsenal - Francis Jeffers

Arsene Wenger reportedly decided to spend £8 million on Jeffers, rather than sign Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Eight goals in 39 appearances suggests that as a big mistake.

Aston Villa - Bosko Balaban

Balaban was signed for £5.8 million but made just nine appearances before being loaned back to Dinamo Zagreb.

 AFC Bournemouth - Jordon Ibe

Even at the time, fans couldn’t believe Bournemouth spent £15 million on Ibe.

It looks an even worse decision five years on.

Burton Albion v AFC Bournemouth - Carabao Cup Third Round

Brighton and Hove Albion -  Jurgen Locadia

Brighton’s club-record signing at £14 million has managed just three Premier League goal and has spent this season on loan at Hoffenheim, before being recalled in January.

His contract expires in the summer.

Watford FC v Brighton & Hove Albion - Premier League

Burnley - Ben Gibson

Sean Dyche spent £15 million on Gibson in the summer of 2018.

He’s played just six times.

Newcastle United v Burnley FC - Premier League

Chelsea - Fernando Torres

From Liverpool hero to Chelsea flop.

Fifty million pounds got Chelsea 20 goals in 110 Premier League appearances.

Crystal Palace - Alexander Sorloth

Palace signed Sorloth for £9 million in January 2018.

He’s played 16 times in the Premier League and hasn’t scored.

Reading v Crystal Palace - Pre-Season Friendly

Everton - Davy Klaassen

Klaassen was signed by Ronald Koeman for £23.6million in 2017.

Seven Premier League appearances and 12 months later, he joined Werder Bremen for £12 million.

Bury v Everton - Pre-Season Friendly

Leicester - Ade Akinbiyi

£5.5 million was a lot of money back in 2000.

But Akinbiyi will always be remembered for THAT match against Liverpool where he missed four glorious chances.

He managed just 11 goals in 58 appearances.

Liverpool - El Hadji Diouf

On the pitch, Diouf three goals in 55 Premier League goals ensured he was considered a £10 million flop.

Off the pitch, his behaviour saw his considered a nasty piece of work and has tried engaging in a war of words with club legends Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard in recent years.
