Revisiting Gary Wilson playing the 'worst shot ever' at last year's World Snooker Championship

It has been just over a year since Gary Wilson played one of the worst shots ever seen on a professional snooker table - and it has not got any better with age!

Although he eventually lost 17-11 to Judd Trump in the semi-final of last year's World Snooker Championship, underdog Wilson put up a credible fight in the match.

Unfortunately for Wilson, however, his clash with Trump will chiefly be remembered for a shot he played in the 11th frame of the match - one that fans called "the worst shot ever".

Wilson came to the table towards the end of the frame, looking to have a real chance of winning it. Disaster struck, though, when he attempted to pot an easy red into the middle pocket. The simplest of shots turned out to be anything but, as Wilson missed his intended target, and instead potted the cueball itself.

The video of this incredible moment can be seen further down this article.

Quite how Wilson managed to produce a miss of this magnitude is something that only he will know. One possible explanation is that Wilson took his eye off the cue when playing the shot. Truthfully, however, there will never be any excuse for a shot that is that bad!

Fans on Twitter showed Wilson no mercy at the time, either. One user summed the general feeling up when they tweeted to declare, "I think this is the worst snooker shot I've ever seen."

It is a point that is impossible to argue.

Of course, World Championship semi-finals come with an increased amount of pressure attached to them, but you just do not expect to see a professional snooker player make that sort of error.

Due to the current circumstances we are all facing, this year's World Snooker Championship was postponed from its original start date of April 18. Organisers have rearranged the tournament and are hopeful that it will instead be able to begin on July 31.

When the tournament finally gets underway, we are all looking forward to seeing some world-class snooker. No matter how the championship unfolds, though, it is unlikely that we will see a shot as inexplicably bad as the one played by Gary Wilson last time around!
