Ashley Young has grown hair. Stop the press.
Men around the world have seen their haircuts take a turn for the worst as most of Europe continues to spend time in lockdown in order to fight the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
So, yes, it couldn’t be more appropriate that hairdressers have shut their doors in recent months, but that doesn’t mean we can’t take amusement from the trim travesties that are cropping up.
Some have decided to chance their arm by giving their partners a pair of scissors and razor, while others have shrugged their shoulders and just shaved it all off.
And when you’ve become used to a certain image from a footballer over the years, it can be really surprising to see their appearance altered drastically during lockdown.
Anthony Martial had social media doing a double-take when he decided to go bald, while the likes of Ander Herrera and Morgan Schneiderlin have also taken the plunge by ditching their hair.
And if you noticed a subtle Manchester United theme there – pretty weird, right? – then you’ll be particularly amused to hear that former captain Young is now attracting attention for his barnet.
We’re all used to seeing Young without the mere hint of a hair on his head, but photographs from Inter Milan training shows that the former England international has embraced the keratin.
Young growing hair… astonishing
In what would usually be a routine Instagram post from the Italian club, the comments were full of football fans in disbelief at the sight of Young with hair for the first time in what feels like forever.
Besides, Young went his entire United and Villa careers without a hair on his head and even in his early days with Watford, the winger-turned-full-back never strayed too far from a buzzcut.
But how times change. Check out Young’s new look down below:
Football fans in a state of shock
One football fan wrote: “The world really has gone mental now. Ashley Young has hair.”
Another penned: “I didn’t believe this at first. But yeah Ashley Young with hair looks mad.”
And a third posted: “Ashley Young with grown hair. That’s it. That’s the tweet.”
In these uncertain times, it seems that even Young’s lack of hair – one of the great institutions of sport in England – can’t be banked upon. Remarkable scenes.
