WWE legend Rey Mysterio looks likely to leave the company in September when his current deal expires.

The Master of the 619 is reportedly looking for a pay rise, but WWE are unwilling to give any member of the roster a raise during the coronavirus pandemic.

He has also been written off television after suffering an eye injury, which could be an indication that the company are preparing for his departure.

Per talkSPORT's Alex McCarthy, Mysterio finds himself in a situation very similar to Drew Gulak.

In what came as a shock to many fans, the latter was released over the weekend.

He failed to agree a new contract - pushing for a pay rise - and was simply allowed to walk despite enjoying the best run of his career.

As a result of the COVID-19 crisis, WWE made mass cuts to both their talent roster and backstage staff, so will not be in a position to offer anyone an improved deal.

That puts Mysterio in an interesting position.

Mysterio wants a raise and WWE won't give him that

There's no doubt he'd be able to secure a lucrative contract with either AEW or NJPW, but his son Dominick has recently started training at the Performance Center.

On top of that, Rey has also previously stated his intention to finish his career with WWE.

"Being able to return home and finish out my career is the way I envisioned it,” he told talkSPORT in December 2019.

Mysterio returned to WWE in 2018

"And now my son wants to be a part of this business. So now he has to put in the work and train.

I would just love to step outside and he’s stepping in, you know? Kind of leave my son behind so he can take care of our history.

Only time will tell if Mysterio will compromise on a new deal in order to finish his career in WWE, or if he will seek pastures new come September.
