English football fans have been asked to name the player they wish their favourite club never sold by Soccer AM's Twitter account.

Hundreds have taken part and we've listed a handful of the answers below...

@scrowe14 | Tottenham fan | Mousa Dembele

Dembele was extremely underrated during his time at Spurs. An elegant midfielder, Dembele racked up 250 appearances for the club after signing in 2012.

However, he fell out of favour with Mauricio Pochettino and was sold to Guangzhou R&F in January 2019.

@BarryLove17 | Manchester United fan | Jaap Stam

Sir Alex Ferguson also believed selling Stam was a mistake.

He said, per the Independent: "At the time he had just come back from an achilles injury and we thought he had just lost a little bit. We got the offer from Lazio, £16.5m for a centre-back who was 29. It was an offer I couldn't refuse. But in playing terms it was a mistake."

Jaap Stam

@lewiswright7 | Liverpool fan | Xabi Alonso

Liverpool nearly won the title in the 2008/09 season. Alonso left that summer and the Reds would completely fall apart in the following years.

The Spaniard went on to have great success with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

@Djmyaz | Newcastle fan | Yohan Cabaye

Cabaye was a fan-favourite during his time at Newcastle, but his time came to an end in January 2014 when he signed for Paris Saint-Germain.

Sanchez scored 80 goals in 166 games for the club, but he left in January 2018 with the club struggling.

@ShepStreets | Aston Villa fan | James Milner

Milner thrived during his three seasons at Aston Villa. But they couldn't hold on to him as he left for Manchester City in 2010.

He left for Leeds in 2000 and would go on to have an incredible career at Manchester United.

Dzeko has been scoring goals almost at will since joining Roma in 2016. He could have done the same for City under Pep Guardiola.

Bentley was sensational during his three season stint with Blackburn. He left for Tottenham in 2008, where his career would go downhill.

@CygnusDr | Leeds fan | Eric Cantona

Cantona spent just over a season at Leeds, scoring 14 goals in 35 games. He left for fierce rivals Manchester United and would go on to become one of the Premier Legaue's greatest ever players.
