Manchester United players resumed training on Wednesday as the Premier League’s Project Restart kicks into gear.

The Premier League gave the green light for clubs to begin ‘phase one’ this week, with players allowed to train in small groups.

Strict coronavirus measures are in place but there’s still an aim to resume the campaign next month.

According to Sky Sports, Scott McTominay and Fred were among the first set of Man United players to return for training on Wednesday.

During lockdown, the Red Devils’ tracked their players fitness levels and when the squad gathered, they were probably surprised to hear how Bruno Fernandes fared.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Portuguese midfielder quickened his pace during lockdown and clocked a top speed that saw him rank as one of United’s fastest players.

Fernandes isn’t renowned for his pace but he surprised Man United with a speed of 34.27km/h, based on springs over 5.5 metres.

Daniel James was, unsurprisingly, the fastest player. His top speed was 36.8km/h.

Others to finish near the top include Jesse Lingard, Axel Tuanzebe and under-18 captain Teden Mengi.

Man United’s players were in constant communication with their fitness coaches during these unprecendeted times, with Tuanzebe detailed the level of support they got.

"The manager sent me a message that just said: 'Stay training and keep working, we don't know when we'll be back, so we don't want any surprises because there are rumours of how many games, so just be healthy, stay fit and maintain good hygiene,'" the 22-year-old told the MEN.

"The club has been very supportive and provided plans for training, nutrition and what not to oversee this period. And we do have group chats, FaceTimes, videos of us training and we have our own Instagram page that we follow to sustain and keep up to date with what's going on with the new training.”

It’s clear that Man United weren’t going to allow their players to slack off while they stayed at home.
