The 19-year-old seized his opportunity earlier in the season following an injury to Luke Shaw and credits Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for his rapid rise.

“Ole is always there for me,” Williams said in February, per utdreport.

“He’s always telling me what I need to improve on, not letting me go in after training to work on things that I need to improve on.

“He’s always there when I need an arm around the shoulder or when I need the praise and also when I need to be told something that I need to work on.”

Williams’ gesture for his father suggests a sweet, kind-natured kid, but that’s not entirely true.

The left-back has developed a reputation for being something of a s***house.

He squared up to Brighton’s Neal Maupay in his first league start and was sent off in a pre-season friendly after headbutting Accrington Stanley captain Sean McConville.

That’s not all. Williams threw Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi into the stands earlier in the season.

It’s the kind of attitude that quickly endeared Williams to the United faithful.

Former United full-back Gary Neville is also a fan.

“I like Brandon Williams,” Neville wrote on Twitter after the teenager impressed against Wolves in the FA Cup.

“What I like about him specifically is he has that look in his eye of someone that would eat his opponents nose to win the match.

“Keep going kid! Oh he can play football to which is always a bonus.”

Williams is hitting all the right notes at the moment.
