As football fans, we have an unhealthy obsession with comparisons.

Who is the best player in the world? What is the best league in the world? Who is the biggest club in the world?

Fans engaging in petty arguments trying to ‘one-up’ each other on social media is an all too regular sight.

Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi is obviously the most significant argument but, in England, the Paul Scholes vs Frank Lampard vs Steven Gerrard debate rages on despite the trio retiring years ago.

But now, there appears to be another debate starting up in the Premier League involving two talented right-backs - Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The debate was only fuelled by Crystal Palace full-back Patrick van Aanholt earlier this month when he was asked about former teammate Wan-Bissaka to which he replied: “Better than Alexander-Arnold? Without a shadow of doubt.

"Yes, Trent has got his attacking and his corners, his right foot. But if you ask Wilf [Zaha] who he would want to play against, every other day, Trent or Wan-Bissaka, I think he will say Trent.”

So, who is better: Alexander-Arnold or Wan-Bissaka?

Well, Twitter account @FootyThreads_ have settled the debate once and for all.

In an incredibly detailed - and fairly balanced - thread we look at stats, ability, potential and even quotes from both Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand.

Click on the below tweet to discover the lengthy thread in all its glory. However, we’ve picked out some of the best tweets.

Taking everything into account, the thread concludes: “There’s not much between them, but I think Trent is a rarer talent and has slightly more potential. He's done it at the highest level, AWB is yet to even play in the UCL. Trent, therefore, edges it for me.”

Debate over?
