Football is slowly coming back.
The sport returned to our TV screens last week when the Bundesliga kicked off after a two month hiatus.
And now La Liga is just a few weeks away from following suit.
Players from Spain's top tier started training in groups of no more than 10 at the start of the week.
And now the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, has confirmed that the league can restart from June 8.
"Spain has done what it should and now new horizons are opening for everyone," Sanchez said, per Marca.
"The time has come to bring back many day-to-day activities. From June 8, LaLiga will be back."
A date has not yet been set by La Liga president Javier Tebas, although he revealed he would like the league to restart on June 12.
He has, however, expressed his pleasure with the decision.
"We are very pleased with the decision," said Tebas, per the BBC. "It is the result of the great work of clubs, players, coaches, CSD (National Sports Council) and agents.
"But we cannot lower our guard, it is important to follow health regulations and ensure the pandemic doesn't come back."
Official confirmation awaits, but it seems Lionel Messi and the rest of the Spanish top flight will return next month.
Every club in La Liga has 11 games left to play. Barcelona currently lead the standings, with a two-point lead over Real Madrid in second.
Sevilla and Real Sociedad occupy the remaining two Champions League places, while Mallorca, Leganes and Espanyol are currently in the relegation zone.
