Football analysts WhoScored.com have given Manchester United’s Harry Maguire a score of 7.12 for his performances in the Premier League this season. That’s enough to see him included in WhoScored’s best XI for the 2019/20 season so far but short of Virgil van Dijk’s 7.4 rating. However, Maguire has failed to convince a portion of Man United’s fanbase that he has lived up to the £80 million price tag. There have been some errors that, as a result of his price tag, have been publicised more than if Maguire was still a Leicester City player. That’s the reality of the situation that Maguire finds himself in now, especially in today’s era where game clips are shared on social media within five minutes.

And a video rounding up his worst defensive moments and misses in front of goal is doing the rounds on Twitter.

Titled ‘Harry Maguire 19/20 highlights’, the video shows that Maguire has come unstuck at times this season, being dribbled past, beaten in the air and rinsed by a few strikers.

Still, has Maguire been a flop? Definitely not.

He’s added a new element to United’s game by linking play from deep and has been a fine leader for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

The unfortunate thing is that his transfer fee, which is £5 million more than Liverpool paid for Van Dijk, will always see him compared to the Dutch defender, and a video of similar Van Dijk moments wouldn’t include nearly as many clips as the one above.
