Steven Gerrard, a man who produced so many miracles for Liverpool, celebrates his 40th birthday today.
The Englishman achieved so much for Liverpool during his career.
He made his debut for the club in 1998 as an 18-year-old and quickly established himself as a regular in the side.
In 2003, he would replace Sami Hyypia as club captain, a role he would hold until he left Liverpool in 2015.
Gerrard made 710 appearances during his 17-year professional stint with the club, scoring 186 times.
He also helped his side win nine major trophies.
Gerrard will always be remembered for his performances in two major finals.
In 2005, it was Gerrard who inspired Liverpool to an incredible comeback against AC Milan to win their 5th Champions League title in 'The Miracle of Istanbul'.
With Liverpool 3-0 down at half-time, Gerrard scored a brilliant header to cut the deficit to two.
He then won a penalty shortly after, which Xabi Alonso converted from to bring Liverpool back level.
Gerrard then played at right-back in extra-time to cancel out a fresh Serginho, before dispatching his penalty in the shootout win.
A year later, Gerrard produced a miraculous performance against West Ham to help his side win the FA Cup.
The midfielder assisted Djibril Cissé's goal with a brilliant cross-field pass. He then scored two incredible goals, with the second in the dying moments of normal time.
Gerrard once again scored his penalty in extra-time as Liverpool won on penalties.
The game was later dubbed 'The Steven Gerrard final' in honour of his performance.
Unfortunately for Gerrard, he was never able to win the Premier League title, meaning he's arguably the best player never to do so.
He could have done by moving elsewhere, but Gerrard's loyalty to his boyhood side meant that he couldn't bring himself to leave the club.
Gerrard was famously courted by Chelsea but in the end he stayed put.
That loyalty is summed up by two quotes in particular.
“Cut my veins open and I bleed Liverpool red. I love Liverpool with a burning passion," he said about Liverpool in his autobiography, per Goal.
He also said, per the Liverpool Echo: “When I die, don’t bring me to the hospital. Bring me to Anfield. I was born there and will die there.”
Gerrard lived his dream to play for Liverpool and he gave it his all throughout his career. He is, quite simply, a club legend.
