The Montreal Screwjob is one of pro wrestling's most infamous moments.
We all know how it went down.
Vince wanted to take the championship off a WCW-bound Bret Hart, who didn’t want to lose to Shawn Michaels.
A plan was concocted and HBK beat The Hitman with his own sharpshooter in his hometown, as referee Earl Hebner called for the bell as soon as the move was locked in.
Then all hell broke loose. Bret spat on Vince, motioned the letters 'WCW' on screen, and later punched his boss backstage before departing.
But could things have been different? According to The Undertaker, yes.
He thinks the whole situation could have been avoided if he was the one wrestling Hart, rather than Michaels.
The Deadman has also revealed how upset he was with the whole ordeal, opening up on what went down back in 1997.
"Take Shawn out of this, let me do it, and then I'll do business on the other side and I think Bret probably would've gone with that.
"There was such disdain at that time between the two of them, but I was just at the point where if you would've just come to me with this too I think I could've helped this whole thing out.
"I'm right here and you know I'm going to do business. It happened and I was really p***ed."
Undertaker also explained what happened the following day and how it took him a long time to come round to McMahon's point of view.
"I'm really disappointed in the whole situation, I was so angry, and Vince and I have had our disagreements but more centered around what I was doing and not somebody else.
"But I also look at the big picture and what's best for business.
"At that point, I had already talked with Bret, everything had already happened so I had to figure out Vince's side of this.
"[I gave] my perspective to say 'look if this kind of s*** happens again you got to involve me here because it doesn't have to go down like this'.
"He agreed and it all worked out. It was sad because I'm really tight with Bret.
"Bret could have done some things differently, Shawn could've done things differently, Vince could have done things differently but then that's one of the great wrestling stories of that era and that decade."
The Montreal Screwjob really did send shockwaves through the WWE locker-room and nearly caused a rift between Vince and one of his most loyal stars.
How different would things have been if Undertaker really did take Michaels' place? We'll never truly know, but from what The Deadman says, Bret would have dropped the belt peacefully to him.
