Six years ago today, Carl Froch defeated George Groves in their greatly-anticipated rematch that took place under the grand arch of Wembley Stadium. This fight, which was billed as 'unfinished business', resulted from a controversial decision which settled their first bout. In Groves' opinion, the referee waved off the fight prematurely during their first bout in 2013, with the loser that night furious about the decision. In addition to this, the fans on the night echoed Groves' frustrations, as the referee received an abundance of vocal abuse. With a point to prove, Groves was given a second opportunity to challenge Froch for the WBA and IBF super-middleweight titles on May 31, 2014.  On this occasion, the build-up to the fight was almost as good as the bout itself, as the pair exchanged verbal blows back and forth and a minor altercation also occurred. The super-middleweights came toe-to-toe when the fighters were promoting the box office event, as Froch shoved Groves in a heated discussion for 'The Gloves Are Off'. The opening few rounds was a slightly lacklustre affair, with little to report on - possibly an opportunity for both fighters to acclimatise to the sizeable venue. As mentioned previously, the two Brits fought at Wembley Stadium and attracted a crowd of 80,000 - which was a record attendance at the time... not sure if Froch has ever mentioned that.

However, the fight soon burst into life in the fourth round, as a free-flowing punching display started to match the great anticipation ahead of the fight. Froch and Groves both grew in confidence as the rounds started to climb, however, the eighth round would signify the end of the latter's title hopes.

Froch's devastating right-hand forced Groves' helpless body to lay across the canvas, which resulted in The Cobra retaining his WBA and IBF titles.

Following his victory, Froch was seemingly ecstatic with his performance, stating: "I am feeling unbelievably elated, this is the best moment in the history of my boxing career. I knew it was only going to take a couple of big right hands to the chin and I timed it perfectly."
